On your side in Reading West

For people across Reading prices are rising faster than wages, the economy is flat-lining and long term unemployment across our town continues to rise.  Yet, instead of focussing on these very real challenges the Conservative-led Government’s priority this April was to cut taxes for people earning over £1 million. Policies like this aren’t going to help hard-working families in Reading.

Energy bills, water bills, paying the mortgage, the cost of getting to work – these are the issues that are worrying people in Reading but the Government has absolutely nothing to say about it. The Government demonstrated how utterly out of touch it is with the real needs of ordinary people.

Labour has a clear plan for turning Britain around and getting us back facing the right direction. We’ve outlined an alternative Queen’s Speech that includes:

• A Jobs Bill to put in place a Compulsory Jobs Guarantee
• A Finance Bill that would kick-start our economy and help make work pay with a 10p rate of tax
• A Consumers Bill to tackle rip-off energy bills and train fares
• A Banking Bill that backs British business with a real British Investment Bank and new regional banks
• A Housing Bill that would take action against rogue landlords and extortionate fees in the private rented sector
• An Immigration Bill with economic measures that put an end to workers having their wages undercut illegally by employers exploiting migrant labour
